Hi, I'm Kevin K Lane

I have 30+ years experience in the animation and VFX industry. I've done art and animation of a wide variety. Ranging from traditional drawn animation to 3d CGI.

My first job was at a clay animation studio in Boston that's most well know for its numerous funny and visually clever MTV bumpers. My most recent job, for almost 8 years, was at NASA/JPL in Pasadena CA, which followed a previous 8 years as an affiliate with JPL. During that time I made 3D animated pieces for various NASA/JPL missions, most notably the Curiosity and Perseverance Rovers.

I created highly technical representations for missions and proposals at the request of different departments within JPL. My goal was to tell science-based stories in a way accessible to the public and in some cases to Congress, by bringing accuracy together with the visual language of film and television. It had to be right as well as entertaining.

These pieces have been used for public outreach; proposals to Congress; in the news media; and in almost any documentary touching on the subject of Mars for TV, cable, and IMAX.

During this time and in-between, I've worked at many studios, doing traditional animation, stop-motion animation and lots of VFX and 3D creature animation for television and a smattering of theatrical mixed in.

While at JPL and elsewhere, I was artist/art director/producer, and managed small teams of artists. I'm comfortable with production from storyboards to compositing. There's very little of the process I don't enjoy and enjoy challenging myself with.

I hope you find something you here you like.
